The Boston Tea Party… (again)

This is purely coincidental and has only now just dawned on me…

You see way back in December 16, 1773 as an act of defiance against the British Government a band of Bostonians destroyed over 45 tons of British tea sitting in a dock, waiting to be unloaded.

…And tea washed up on the Boston shores for weeks after.

What’s significant about this event, is that it is thought to have been one of the many sparks that catalyzed the American Revolution which of course eventually led to freedom from British rule.

Where’s First?

Back in the day when I began building my own fitness business “empire”, I had big plans, ample amounts of ambition and plenty of drive - the only problem was…

…I lacked DIRECTION!

Project Management VS. The Hamster Wheel

I’m looking at my post-it free desk right now and thinking to myself - “Ahhh, organizational bliss!”

You see about 2 years ago my desk, computer screen and pockets would be filled with post-it notes and scrumpled up bits of paper with notes, ideas, and “urgent things to do” scribbled on them…

…Now at NPE we can be working on 15, 20 even up 30 different projects at a time so this random clutter wasn’t exactly the epitome of efficiency.

Tie that in with 6-12 employees and freelancers I’m meant to be delegating tasks to, chasing up for stuff and managing and well; things were getting slightly hectic to say the least.

And I’m meant to be the “systems guy”!

As you manage and grow your business, there’s no doubt you’re experience the exact same thing. You spend a lot of time working, but don’t seem to get much done - It’s like you’re stuck in a Hamster Wheel!

I’m happy to report that things are back on track at NPE; it’s still as busy as ever, but productivity is way up, there’s direction, I know exactly what’s going on and things get done. Which means we can continue to steadily grow and grow. And that sure beats running around in circles like headless chickens.

So what’s the big secret to this organizational bliss, that’s so essential for steady, structured business growth?

It’s Project Management - which is basically the art of maximizing your productivity. And if you’re being 100% honest with yourself, you’ll probably agree that you don’t do this too well at all.

Not to worry, because very few fitness professionals do; that’s because no-one is showing us how! The right coaches are few and far between. In fact the guy I got to sort ourselves out here at NPE lives over 3,000 miles away in England.

Seriously he’s the nearest project management coach I could find who was qualified enough to fill in NPE’s organizational cracks. It just so happens he’s one of the best in the world at what he does too.

His name is Nik Tipler and owns a software company called Gyronix; they specialize in creating project management tools and offer an executive coaching program for entrepreneurs to Fortune 500 executives.
